69 U.S. CITIES AND 8 COUNTIES HAVE PASSED ORDINANCES OUTLAWING ABORTION*
Rusk, Texas is located in Cherokee County.
During Cherokee County's 2016 Presidential Election 76.9% voted Republican, 20.7% voted Democrat, and 2.4% voted for other candidates.
During the 2018 Republican Party Primary, voters had the opportunity to vote on proposition #7. This proposition gave voters the chance to voice their opinion if they were "In Favor" or "Against" this following statement: " I believe abortion should be abolished in Texas." In Cherokee County, out of 5,875 votes, 4,618 voted in favor of the idea of abolishing abortion in the state of Texas and 1,257 voted against the idea abolishing abortion in the state of Texas.
The population of the city of Rusk, Texas is 5,618.
On November 21st, 2019 the City Council of Rusk voted on the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance. The City Council voted 3-0 to table the ordinance so that all members of the City Council could vote on the measure on January 9th, 2020.
On January 9th, 2020 the City Council of Rusk untabled the Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance for a vote. The vote by the City Council was 3 in favor and 2 against. In taking this action the City of Rusk became the eighth city to outlaw abortion in the nation.

The City Council member of District 1 is Ben Middlebrooks.
A total of 87 signatures in favor of the City of Rusk becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn was collected from District 1.
A Grassroots effort was organized in District 2 to obtain signatures of Rusk residents in favor of the City of Rusk outlawing abortion and becoming a Sanctuary City of the Unborn.
The City Council member of District 2 is Walter Sessions.
A total of 37 signatures in favor of the City of Rusk becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn was collected from District 2.
A Grassroots effort was organized in District 3 to obtain signatures of Rusk residents in favor of the City of Rusk outlawing abortion and becoming a Sanctuary City of the Unborn.
The City Council member of District 3 is Martin Holsome.
A total of 201 signatures in favor of the City of Rusk becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn was collected from District 3.
A Grassroots effort was organized in District 4 to obtain signatures of Rusk residents in favor of the City of Rusk outlawing abortion and becoming a Sanctuary City of the Unborn.
The City Council member of District 4 is Martha Neely.
A total of 170 signatures in favor of the City of Rusk becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn was collected from District 4.
A Grassroots effort was organized in District 5 to obtain signatures of Rusk residents in favor of the City of Rusk outlawing abortion and becoming a Sanctuary City of the Unborn.
The City Council member of District 5 is Frances Long.
A total of 69 signatures in favor of the City of Rusk becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn was collected from District 5.
A Grassroots effort was organized at First Baptist Church of Rusk to obtain signatures of Rusk residents in favor of the City of Rusk outlawing abortion and becoming a Sanctuary City of the Unborn.
A total of 57 signatures in favor of the City of Rusk becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn was collected from First Baptist Church of Rusk, Texas.
